Shuo Li guest researcher at IGIR

Dr. Shuo Li will visit IGIR for one year as a guest researcher, between October 2025 and October 2026. Her current research focuses on China and international arbitration.

Background of the research visit

Shuo Li is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law, Dalian Maritime University. She holds dual master’s degrees in Economic Law and European Law, and earned her Ph.D. from Maastricht University, the Netherlands, in 2019 (under the supervision of Michael Faure and Niels Philipsen). Her doctoral research focused on the internationalization of competition law, examining the conflicts and compromises among jurisdictions arising from this process. During her doctoral studies, she developed a strong interest in regional integration and the functioning of international organizations. In 2022, she completed a post-doctoral research program devoted to transnational legal cooperation and the dynamics of regional integration.

After five years of academic work in China, Dr. Li returned to Maastricht for a one-year research visit. Her current research focuses on China and International Adjudication, in particular, conducting a comprehensive analysis of China’s historical and contemporary engagement with international adjudication mechanisms; investigating China’s positions and strategies in key international legal cases; assessing the implications of China’s behavior for the development and effectiveness of international legal norms and institutions; and exploring future scenarios for China’s participation in international adjudication.
