Discussion on the Recent ICC Arrest Warrant Applications in Relation to the Situation in Gaza and Israel

On Monday, 20 May 2024, Karim Khan, the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), submitted an application for the issuance of arrest warrants against Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and three Hamas leaders, including the organization’s head Yahya Sinwar, alleging responsibility for war crimes and crimes against humanity in relation to the situation in Palestine.

In light of the strong interest previously expressed by students in the events in Gaza and the significance of this arrest warrant application, staff members of the UM Law Faculty working on International Criminal Law will hold a discussion on what this move from Prosecutor Khan means, the ICC’s role in Palestine, the essence of the charges, their implications, and what to expect next. This will be followed by a Q&A session.

The event will take place at Law Faculty's Statenzaal (C1.302) on Monday 27 June from 13:30 to 15:30. All UM students are welcome. For the Q&A, we would like to ask students in advance to keep the discussion civil and respectful.
