Master thesis project Greening Europe
The European Green deal aims to strengthen the regulatory approach towards combatting climate change and environmental degradation. The way regulatory power is exerted around this topic asks for reflection. That’s why a selected group of students and staff members joined forces in a thesis project to study EU environmental law, with a focus on how EU action contributes to environmental protection.
The thesis project was initiated by the Maastricht Centre for European Law (MCEL) in the academic year 2020-2021 and was successfully completed with ten master theses in the summer of 2021. The topics examined are diverse and vary from the codification of climate neutrality in the new European Climate Law to the protection of wolves in France as required by EU nature conservation law.
All abstracts of the theses can be found at the MCEL Greening Europe webpage. Some of the theses are being considered for academic publication. This first MCEL thesis project will continue in the academic year 2021-2022 with the theme the impact of COVID-19 on European Union Law. It is coordinated by Dr Sabrina Röttger-Wirtz.
The initiative for the MCEL thesis project series comes from the directors of MCEL, professor Dr Ellen Vos and professor Dr Bruno de Witte.
