Invisible protectors: how bacteria can prevent allergies

In the Netherlands, more and more infants are suffering from allergies, such as asthma or eczema. Interestingly, this seems to be linked to our modern indoor lifestyle, which reduces our contact with bacteria from nature.
Did you know that while playing outdoors, infants ingest up to 60 milligrams of soil, full of beneficial bacteria? At NUTRIM, Niels van Best is researching how these natural bacteria can strengthen the immune system of young infants, and can help prevent allergies.
