In Memoriam Heidi van Ooijen-Blezer
It is with great sadness that we announce, the passing of our colleague, Heidi van Ooijen-Blezer, who worked as a Library Services Officer at the University Library. Heidi passed away on 23 December 2024, at the age of 59, after a short illness.
Heidi, born on 27 September 1965, began her career at Maastricht University on 1 May 1999. Her first role was as a Study Information/Document Delivery Officer, where she worked for both Student Affairs and the University Library. From 18 October 1999, Heidi focused entirely on her work at the University Library, where she quickly became an indispensable asset.
Over the years, Heidi held various positions within the University Library. Her most recent role, which she assumed in November 2021, was with the e-journals team within the Collections team. Here, she excelled in accuracy and had a keen eye for detail. Heidi was curious, a perfectionist, and always looking for ways to improve herself and her work. She wanted to know not only when she was doing well, but also when and how she could improve herself – an attitude that characterised her work and personality.
Heidi recently celebrated her 25th anniversary at the University, but unfortunately, she could not enjoy it as she deserved, as the illness that ultimately overcame her took hold of her from that moment on.
In addition to her work, Heidi had a rich passion for music and nature. She enjoyed singing, playing the piano, and giving piano lessons. She loved sharing her passion for music with her colleagues, including through performances with the library's own band. In her free time, Heidi found peace and fulfilment in her garden. She had a deep connection to all things that grew and flourished, from plants to animals, which was an expression of her caring and vivacious nature.
Heidi was a warm, friendly colleague who was appreciated by everyone. Her positivity, dedication, and attention to detail have left a lasting impression.
Heidi's passing leaves a great void within the University Library and Maastricht University. We remember her as an extremely friendly person and an example of collegiality and passion.
We extend our deepest condolences to her husband Ger, family, and friends as they cope with this immense loss. Heidi will always remain in our thoughts.
