"Supporting general practice in diagnosis and choice of treatment for patients with psychological problems: PsyScan"

The department of general practice of Maastricht University and the Eindhoven Corporation of Primary Health Care Centers developed PsyScan. PsyScan is an internet tool for patients which supports general practitioners in differentiating the type and severity of psychological problems. Additionally, PsyScan helps the general practitioner and patient choose appropriate treatment.
The tool was evaluated in a randomised controlled trial with 336 patients in which half of the patients received PsyScan. Participants in the PsyScan group showed better psychological outcomes and higher quality of life. Use of PsyScan did not result in increased costs.
Currently, PsyScan is being made available for other healthcare organisations.
