Jere Francis (J.R.)

Jere Francis was appointed in 2018 as professor of accounting and the inaugural Foundation for Auditing Research Chair at Maastricht University. Prior to his appointment, he was a professor at University of Missouri (1994-2018) and University of Iowa (1985-1994) in the United States. Professor Francis has published over 60 papers in leading research journals on a wide range of topics in auditing and corporate financial reporting.  He has served on the editorial boards of leading journals including The Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting and Economics, Contemporary Accounting Research, and Accounting Organizations and Society. In 2011, he was recognized by the American Accounting Association as an Outstanding Auditing Educator (2011), and has twice received the American Accounting Association’s Notable Contribution to Auditing Research (2007 and 2010). Professor Francis’s current research focuses on factors that affect audit quality such as organizational structure and the internal culture of accounting firms. His current research also examines how personal characteristics of the top management of audit teams (engagement partners and managers) can influence the quality of audits.
