Bringing Biomass and 1,3 butadiene in flow-chemistry

In partnership with ETB Global, this project aims to develop an innovative route for the sustainable conversion of biomass into 1,3-butadiene using photo flow chemistry.

The research will focus on elucidating the reaction mechanism, identifying key intermediates, and optimizing reaction conditions. The process will integrate advanced analytical techniques, including hyphenation with ion mobility spectrometry and the use of Bronkhorst multi-sensors, enabling simultaneous in situ monitoring of both physical and chemical parameters. The ultimate goal is to deliver a “candidate process” that serves as the foundation for an industrially scalable and sustainable production pathway for 1,3-butadiene.
