Parking
Do you plan on driving to Maastricht University (UM) with your own car and need a place to park?
UM and the municipalities of Maastricht and Venlo have several parking options for you.
Parking in Maastricht
Parking in Randwyck (temporarily closed)
As a UM student you can park for free in Randwyck, but keep in mind that the parking lot can be full. The UM has a large parking lot at Sorbonnelaan, where you can park free of charge with your UM card, seven days a week, 24 hours a day. However, full is full, and if the parking lot is full you cannot gain access and there is therefore no guarantee of a spot.
NB: Parking lot Sorbonnelaan temporarily closed
Due to planned redevelopment work, the parking lot of Maastricht University at Sorbonnelaan will be completely closed from 12 December 2025 through 23 January 2026. During this period, parking on this lot is not permitted. Read what this means for you and where you can park temporarily.
Towing regulations in effect
Do you usually park at Sorbonnelaan? Make sure that your vehicle is no longer on this lot by 11 December 2025. Vehicles still present on the lot on 12 December will be towed or relocated. The costs for towing, relocating, and/or storage will be charged to the vehicle’s registered owner. Damage to vehicles or property resulting from ignoring this regulation is at the owner’s own risk.
Alternative parking options
During the redevelopment work, you can use the following parking lots:
• Side street of Gaetano Martinolaan – Parking garage via MECC square (entrance opposite P3)
• Leidenlaan 10 – Duboisdomein parking area
Please note: you can only use these lots during the time of the redevelopment work. After the work has been completed, between 24 and 30 January 2026, we ask you to park your vehicle at Sorbonnelaan again and no longer use the alternative parking locations. From that moment on, the towing policy will apply there as well for vehicles that remain without authorisation.
Questions
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation, enabling the work to be carried out safely and according to schedule.

Free city parking at Maastricht Noord P+R
You can also park for free at the car park (Park + Ride) at Maastricht Noord, near the A79 (Aachen-Maastricht) motorway exit. Parking is free of charge for anyone 24/7. A bus departs from the lot to the city centre every 15 minutes.
Living in Maastricht with a car
If you live and study in Maastricht, you can apply for a residents parking permit from Gemeente Maastricht. This permit entitles you to park your car in the zone in which you live. Prices depend on how far away from Maastricht’s city centre you live.
Driving to UM from abroad several days a week
If you drive from your home abroad to Maastricht several days a week for your studies, you can buy a parking permit for foreign students from Gemeente Maastricht.
For 2025, the cost is € 6.82 per month (plus a one-time administration fee of € 22.65).
Other ways to travel to and within Maastricht

Parking in blue zones
Blue zones have been established around the centre of Venlo and in the centres of Tegelen and Blerick. In a blue zone, you may only park along the blue kerbs. If you park here as a visitor, you must use a parking disc. This allows you to park for free for a maximum number of hours.
