UM Sustainability Week presents:
-

What is the climate crisis? How have we come here? And what is our way out? Sustainability and the climate crisis can be an overwhelming concept. That’s why in this opening lecture of the UM Sustainability Week, we kick-off the event by addressing these daunting questions in order to understand the full spectrum of what we are dealing with as a society.

Our guest lecturer René Gabriels will unravel the climate crisis to the core by explaining the system that underlies this problem and what the alternatives are. He will end with a few lessons for the people to take into consideration while working on and thinking about sustainability.

René Gabriëls is lecturer at Maastricht University. The main fields of research are social philosophy, sociology of knowledge, philosophy of language and sociology of stratification. His research focuses on democracy, global justice, human rights, poverty, the changed role of philosophy and the relation between semantics and pragmatics. He wrote books about intellectuals, racism and local democracy and articles about the afore mentioned topics.
