Mr A.R. Ramswell

Amy is a PhD researcher at the department of Private Law and a member of the Law and Tech Lab. Her research will examine the legal ramifications of AI use in healthcare, considering aspects such as responsibility, negligence, bias and transparency. Her project is supervised by Dr. Mindy Duffourc and Prof. dr. Gijs van Dijk.

Prior to joining Maastricht University, Amy worked at the Meijers Committee- a standing committee of experts in EU law focussed on upholding the rule of law. Through forward looking interventions at both EU and national level, the group aimed to influence EU legislative developments. Additionally, Amy has worked in-house in the legal office of the University of Southampton.

Amy received her LL.B. from the University of Leeds in the UK and her LL.M. in International and European Law from Radboud University. She also spent a year at the VU Amsterdam, focussing on law and technology. 

Studying law during the Covid-19 pandemic drew Amy undeniably towards the intersection between law and health. An analysis of judicial reasoning in Covid-19 vaccine cases formed the subject of her Bachelor's thesis and first publication. At Master's level, she became interested in climate change- arguably the biggest threat to health of our generation- and used a comparative law approach to question the future of climate litigation before the ECtHR.
