Prof. Michael Faure receives UM Medallion of Honour
On Friday, April 4, Prof. Michael Faure delivered his farewell lecture as Professor of International and Comparative Environmental Law. In recognition of the exceptional way in which he has contributed to the reputation, visibility, and development of Maastricht University, he was awarded the UM Medallion of Honour following his lecture.
The Executive Board of Maastricht University honours Professor Faure for his significant contribution to research at the Faculty of Law. He was one of the founding members of the Ius Commune Research School and, since 1991, has served as the scientific director of the METRO research institute. In addition, he played a leading role for many years in prestigious international research collaborations in the field of law, such as the European Centre of Tort and Insurance Law in Vienna and the European Doctorate in Law and Economics. His list of publications includes over 350 works, and he has supervised 120 PhD candidates.
Professor Faure received the honorary medal from Dean Jan Smits. “During his 34 years at Maastricht University Michael made a profound and lasting impact, on the Faculty of Law, on his academic fields of environmental law, law and economics and liability law, on academic cooperation, but most importantly, on people, on everyone he worked with: his many PhD-researchers and colleagues in Maastricht and Rotterdam, but also much broader throughout Europe and the world. I wholeheartedly compliment Michael with his many achievements,” said the Dean of the Faculty of Law.
