R. Sineiro Andrade Aroso Duarte

Rita Aroso Duarte is a PhD candidate in EU Law at the Faculty of Law of the Maastricht University. Her doctoral research reflects on the role of the EU Courts in the EU legal order through the lens of the scholarly debate on judicial activism and passivism. In particular, it focuses on a critical analysis of case law on the fields of migration and asylum, as well as environmental matters, in light of the principles of institutional balance and effective judicial protection.

Prior to her doctoral research, Rita worked as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Coimbra and completed legal traineeships at the Court of Justice of the European Union and the European Court of Human Rights.

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law from the University of Coimbra, during which she completed an Erasmus+ period at the University of Bologna, a two-year Master’s degree in Public International and EU Law from the University of Coimbra and an LL.M. in EU Law from the College of Europe.
