Mr N.P.J. Welten

Nick obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences in 2022 at Maastricht University. During his Bachelor’s, he completed the FHML Honours Programme, where he worked on a project focusing on the upregulation of genes in myogenic stem cells to combat muscular dystrophies. He also focused on this topic during his BSc internship. He continued his studies at Maastricht University and, in 2024, obtained his Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences with a specialisation in Regenerative Medicine. During his final one-year Master’s internship, he investigated the effect of the tumour secretome on myogenic stem cells in the context of a cancer cachexia muscle stem cell therapy. In August 2024, Nick started a PhD at the University Eye Clinic Maastricht, focusing on the role of biomechanical pressure on retinal ganglion cells derived from retinal organoids to study glaucoma.
