Dr D. Slenter, MSc
On the 1st of June 2026 I started as an assistant professor in the Institute of Data Science (IDS) and the Department of Advanced Computing Sciences (DACS) at the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE). Within this group I will be developing my own research area.
In August of 2025 I started with the Tears of Joy project, for which I received a Kootstra Talent Fellowship scholarship. During this project I will create a new risk assessment model, combining immunological data, ultrasound parameters, and lifestyle information. We want to use this model to treat and reduce recurrent miscarriages in collaboration with dr. Salwan al Nasiri from the gynaecology department of the Maastricht University Medical Center (MUMC+) hospital .
I previously worked as a postdoc as a data scientist combined with education at the University of Maastricht.
During my PhD research I combined metabolic pathways and inherited metabolic disorders, graph data models, semantic web (RDF), and metabolomics data.
My academic career started with a BSc in Chemical Engineering at the TU/e, with a minor in teaching. I graduated from the Forensic Science Master (University of Amsterdam) and the Education and Communication Master (University of Technology Eindhoven, TU/e), direction Chemistry.
