Prijswinnaars 41e Dies Natalis Universiteit Maastricht

Traditiegetrouw zijn tijdens de Diesviering de Wynand Wijnen Onderwijsprijs, de Proefschriftenprijs en de Studentenprijzen voor de beste master- en bachelorscripties uitgereikt. Na afloop van de ceremonie in het Theater aan het Vrijthof ontvingen de prijswinnaars persoonlijke felicitaties van de Duitse Bondspresident Joachim Gauck, die zelf een eredoctoraat ontving en Hare Majesteit Prinses Beatrix der Nederlanden, als speciale gast aanwezig.

Wynand Wijnen Onderwijsprijs 2016

De Wynand Wijnen Onderwijsprijs wordt jaarlijks uitgereikt als eerbetoon aan de in 2012 overleden hoogleraar onderwijskunde Wynand Wijnen. Hij is de grondlegger van het Probleemgestuurd Onderwijs van de Universiteit Maastricht en heeft ook landelijke verdiensten op het gebied van onderwijsvernieuwing.

Dr. Jeanette Hommes won dit jaar de prijs. Ze werkt sinds 1991 aan de School of Business and Economics bij het departement Onderwijs, Onderzoek en Ontwikkeling. De afgelopen 25 jaar heeft zij een substantiële bijdrage geleverd aan het professionaliseren van de docenten. De jury is vooral onder de indruk van haar persoonlijke benadering waarmee ze de (nieuwe) docent begeleidt. Daarbij besteedt zij veel aandacht aan opleiding, coaching en ontwikkeling. “Haar toewijding en betrokkenheid zijn uitzonderlijk”, aldus het juryrapport.

Dies Natalis 2017

Dissertatieprijs 2016

Jaarlijks kent de UM een prijs toe aan het beste proefschrift dat in een kalenderjaar verdedigd werd. Er werden vijf proefschriften genomineerd door de faculteitsdecanen, en de winnaar van de Dissertatieprijs 2016 is dr. Jess Bier, met het proefschrift “Mapping Israel Mapping Palestine”. Dr. Bier analyseerde hoe de gesegregeerde landschappen van Jerusalem en de Westbank invloed hadden op het in kaart brengen van deze gebieden sinds 1967. Hierbij onderzocht ze met name hoe kennis geografisch wordt geproduceerd. Volgens de Jury is ze dit onderzoek bijzonder origineel-wetenschappelijk te werk gegaan. Haar data verzamelde ze onder andere via uitgebreid etnografisch veldwerk in Israël en Palestina. Momenteel werkt Bier als ‘assistant professor urban sociology’ aan de Erasmus Universiteit in Rotterdam.
