Milene Bonte (M.L.)
Milene Bonte studied Psychology at Maastricht University (1995-1999), performing her master thesis in the group of prof. Thomas Elbert at Konstanz University, Germany, on developmental changes in auditory cortical MEG responses. She received her PhD in 2005 at Maastricht University, studying phonological aspects of speech perception in typical and dyslexic readers using EEG (supervisor prof. Leo Blomert). During her PhD she worked in close collaboration with local schools and national dyslexia institutes. In 2004 she received a Ter Meulen Fonds (KNAW), and Stichting De Drie Lichten travel grant to investigate context-dependent plasticity in spoken word recognition using MEG in the group of prof. Riitta Salmelin at Helsinki University of Technology, Finland. In 2007 she received an NWO Veni grant to investigate task-dependent and developmental plasticity in speech perception using univariate and multivariate fMRI and EEG techniques. Milene is currently PI of the MBIC Brain & Language group where her research focuses on (1) reading-induced brain plasticity during typical and dyslexic reading development (NWO Vidi grant) (2) reading fluency and neural correlates of auditory/visual language processing (3) neural representation of speech in the brain’s dorsal (sensorimotor) and ventral (meaning) pathways.
