Dr Alex Thinius (A.C.)
Dr. Alex Thinius is filosoof en sociaal-cultureel wetenschapper. Alex werkt aan een beter begrip van wat categorieën zijn en hoe ze veranderen, met name complexe categorieën zoals gender/geslacht/sekse.
Als docent is Alex geïnteresseerd in pro-democratische pedagogische benaderingen.
Alex' meest recente werk kijkt naar hoe onderzoekers in de biomedisch wetenschap hun begrippen van sekse en gender opnieuw onderhandelen. Ontstaan uit Alex' NWO Rubicon-postdocproject, is dit onderzoek deels verankerd in het GenderSci Lab (Harvard University), waar Alex sinds 2022 deel van uitmaakt.
Een tweede thema focust op de metafysica van sociaal-culturele categorieën als dynamische processen (“Dynamic Categories”), in vervolg op Alex’ promotieonderzoek naar wat gender- en genre-categorieën zijn (Universiteit van Amsterdam, 2021).
