AI, Fiction and the Future: A Workshop and Panel with Katleen Gabriels and Josje Weusten
How does artificial intelligence shape the stories we tell about ourselves and the world around us? And how can fiction help us make sense of rapid technological change?
On 18 and 21 July, Maastricht University and Bibliotheek Maastricht at Centre Céramique will host two events exploring the relationship between AI, storytelling, and future thinking.
Writer and assistant professor Josje Weusten will lead a creative writing workshop, “AI and the Future Novel,” where participants will experiment with speculative writing inspired by science fiction and emerging technologies. No prior writing experience is required.
This will be followed by a panel discussion, “AI and the Near Future,” featuring tech philosopher Katleen Gabriels, literary scholar Marjolein van Herten, and writer Josje Weusten. Together, they will explore how fiction can help us reflect on the societal impact of AI and imagine alternative futures.
As AI continues to evolve, storytelling remains a powerful tool to question, understand, and critically engage with the future.
