Giving Voice to Victims of Human Rights Violations
Studium Generale | Human Rights Lecture
Human rights and victim rights aim to address some of the needs that may be encountered by victims of serious human rights violations and international crimes. The impact of these rights is, however, marginal. Should we agree with Hannah Arendt that in the context of mass victimisation ‘the enormity of evil explodes the limits of the law’? This lecture will provide food for thought on how justice can be seen to be done, in the eyes of the victimised communities, giving actual meaning to the aspirations that flow from human rights and victim rights.
