RBG

The documentary RBG shows the lifespan of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and how she developed a legal legacy while becoming a pop culture icon.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s career spans decades. After a career at Harvard and Columbia University, she became an advocate for gender equality and women’s rights in the ‘60’s and ’70’s. In 1993, President Clinton nominated her as a judge for the Supreme Court. At the time, Justice Bader Ginsburg was the second female justice ever to be appointed.

The film will be introduced by Sarah Thin. Thin is a PhD researcher and tutor in international law who has been actively involved in numerous campaigning activities on issues of social, gender, economic, and environmental justice . These activities have ranged from academic work, to electoral politics (e.g. during the final year of her undergraduate degree, Sarah stood for election to her local council), to grassroots organising. Her approach to 'The Notorius RBG' is informed not only by her understanding of the law and her involvement in the movement for gender equality, but also by her commitment to democratic legitimacy and participation.

Lumière Cinema and Studium Generale are kicking off a new collaboration, bringing together cinema and science. RBG is the first film to be screened in this collaboration. On 16 April, Bellingcat - Truth in a Post-Truth World will be shown on the big screen.
