The European Central Bank (ECB) is hard at work developing the digital euro, as a full replacement for cash. But cash has unique features that are difficult to copy in digital form. This presentation will look at the ECB’s plans and at what technology is required to approximate the features of cash in the digital domain. The digital euro will, however, never be the equivalent of cash.

Wat weten we nu eigenlijk van gezondheid in de stad? Als we al iets van stadsgezondheid weten, dan gaat het over de gezondheid van mensen. Deze lezing beoogt weg te stappen van een dergelijk ‘antropocentrisch’ naar een veel belangrijker ‘ecocentrisch’ perspectief. We moeten, voor een optimale stadsgezondheid, naar ons (stads)ecosysteem in al haar complexiteit kijken. En luisteren. We moeten de schimmels van de stad laten spreken.

In this series of lectures, we delve into the psychology of eating – from picky eaters to eating disorders, from myths about obesity to the importance of a healthy body image. A team of scholars from UM’s Eatlab will present their research about picky eating and food refusal (ARFID) in young children and adults, the treatment of eating disorders, and misconceptions about weight and health. They also consider what influences our body image – and what that means for our well-being.

British-Russian composer Elena Langer mocks and questions our obsession with celebrity – and shows how we should embrace the chaotic, gruesome, joyful and beautiful nature of life. Originally commissioned by the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Theatre in Moscow, this opera was cancelled after the invasion of Ukraine. The piece was deemed insufficiently patriotic. The Reisopera is proud to be able to give this exceptional new opera its world premiere after all.
The existential angst of the main character Semyón Podsekayev drives him to suicide, but he hopes that playing the tuba will save him. This fails miserably.

Every year, King Ouf I looks forward to the birthday present he thought up himself: the execution of a random subject. This year, the choice falls on the brazen pedlar Lazuli. However, the court astrologer Siroco warns the king that Ouf's star is closely linked to Lazuli's. So if he dies, Ouf dies too. But of course, his majesty will not let that happen, and Lazuli's life is closely guarded. He is extremely pampered and even gets to marry the princess in the end!
