Rechtsherstel voor slachtoffers van VN-militairen

The UN sends soldiers on peacekeeping missions. In different corners of the world, they restore peace and order. Unfortunately, in doing so, they also use violence that leads to human rights violations. For example, they used sex slaves in Yugoslavia, and raped minors in South Sudan or the Central African Republic.

"Those who seek justice as victims easily get lost in juristry and a world in which much goes unpunished," said Steven van de Put, PhD candidate at Maastricht University. "This must and can be done differently. It cannot be that individuals or groups of individuals who have had something bad happen to them spend much longer trying to discover where they can get their rights."
