In China 23.5 million single men (often of lower socio- economic status) seek to marry by 2020. Never-married men have lower overall well-being, and are a vulnerable group in societies with a marriage norm. At the same time, many countries have experienced a transition from malnutrition to an increase in overweight and obesity: In China, a 10.3 fold increase in obesity was observed in (rural) men aged 35–44 between 1991-2011 (Ning et … At the end of this project, we have a comprehensive overview of the influence of cultural differences and sex ratios on single, ‘surplus’ men, as well as their risk for obesity, self-perceptions, and physical and psychological well-being. PCI often experience limited career opportunities and lack of managerial support, despite their equal performance compared to healthy peers. … disclosure of chronic illness affect employability (e.g., glass-ceiling effect) and how is this impacted by support from leaders? (3) How does moral leadership influence the post-disclosure experience? This list is not exhaustive, the specific focus can be adjusted depending on the interests of the candidate. Setting and Methods: Mixed methods will be employed. Interview studies will be conducted to gain initial insights, and a more general overview will be obtained with large scale longitudinal- …
- biobased_materials_-_improving_the_mechanical_performance_of_renewable_polyesters_blends.pdf (319.28 kB, PDF)… Biobased materials; Maastricht University, The Netherlands). E-mail: sanjay.rastogi@maastrichtuniversity.nl Keywords: High Impact, High Strength, High Modulus, Thermoplastic, Biomedical. Introduction: Polyester materials such as polycaprolactone (PCL) can be biocompatible and biodegradable polymers useful for a wide range of applications, including biomedical and textile applications. These polymers because of their biocompatibility and biodegradability are often used for medical applications such … the required mechanical performance required for several demanding applications (tensile modulus ≥ 15 GPa, tensile strength ≥ 2 GPa). Hypothesis and Objectives: In this proposal we aim to improve the mechanical properties of commercial grades of PCLs with strong reinforcing fillers including Ultra-High Molecular Weight PolyEthylene (UHMWPE) and other biodegradable components. In particular, UHMWPE is known to have superior mechanical properties such as high resistance to fatigue and adhesive wear … in entanglement density. The novel synthesis route allows lowering of the melt viscosity of these ultra-high molar masses making UHMWPEs suitable for blending. The blending of PCL and UHMWPE will provide a melt processable bio-compatible polymer with enhanced mechanical properties making them suitable to meet high demanding applications in medical implants. To achieve the set goal we aim to blend different grades of PCLs with UHMWPEs having a reduced density of entanglements. Different PCL …
- law_bangkok_programme_final_version.docx (182.79 kB, DOCX)… topics, ranging from investment protection and dispute settlement, to sustainable development, and the international rule of law. The Symposium sought to foster a policy dialogue between the academic and policy community in the EU and Thailand with a view to promoting multilateralism in international investment and trade. The first day of the Symposium investigated the past experiences of Investor–State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) and the possibility of a global reform of this system. In recent years, the legitimacy of ISDS has come under fire due to high profile cases of investors’ challenges against States’ regulatory actions. Within EU Member States, citizens and NGOs have led calls for greater transparency and public engagement on ISDS, which led to an investment protection standards and dispute settlement reform within the EU. The new mechanism for resolving investment disputes is known as the Investment Court System (ICS) and it has been included in the EU’s free trade and investment protection agreements with Canada, Singapore, Vietnam, and Mexico. The EU has also been improving substantive standards in its investment agreements in order to safeguard the right of States to regulate. The EU vision of the new model of investment dispute settlement in the form …
- 04_CfP_MORSE2023_Track_Uncertainty.docx (878 kB, DOCX)… expectations. Knight (1921) identified two types of uncertainty: ambiguity and risk, and Ellsberg (1961) theoretically showed that people respond differently to each. Ambiguity refers to a situation in which the probability of a future event cannot be determined, while risk describes events where the likelihood is known. However, it is yet unclear to what extent these two concepts of uncertainty can be applied to the transmission mechanisms in macroeconomic models. Furthermore, there is scarce evidence on how ordinary economic agents, such as households, adjust to aggregate uncertainty or if it aligns with decision-making theories used in macroeconomic models. The track seeks to deepen our understanding of the relationship between theoretical concepts of uncertainty and their implications on macroeconomic models.
