There are distinctive stages in the development of the city's shape, which are visualised by means of four 3D models in the "Jülich virtual" project. In detail, these are the late antique fort, the late medieval city, the ideal city layout of the Renaissance of the 16th century and finally the fortified city in its maximum expansion phase in the middle of the 19th century. In combination with historical and current visual material, the city's development is explained in a 10-minute film and made transparent for those interested without prior knowledge. The models are deliberately designed to be slightly abstract in order to emphasise the hypothetical nature of the reconstruction on the one hand, and on the other hand to minimise the need for updating in line with the changing …

- quality assurance - Minutes QAC September 2021 revised.docx (18.14 kB, DOCX)… doing a combined presentation at the CAPHRI day would still be a good idea, but it seems difficult to get a slot and MS agreed. DS suggested that the planned email informing staff about the audit procedure could include an invitation to an audit workshop. LW suggested that a prerecorded video might be better initially. LW pointed out that while PhD students are well catered for, postdocs and other new staff don’t always get the same support, and it would be good if information about the research … were provided to new staff. MS said the webinar is good way of catching such staff. It was agreed that departments should be asked to include the link to the QA website as part of info provided to new staff. ACTION: DS to discuss event possibilities with Hanneke Trines. ACTION: DS to ask department heads to mention QA to new staff. 4. Audit reports. DS introduced discussion of whether Budget Managers (BM) were the best people to share audit reports with in addition to researchers, and suggested that heads of department (HoD) might be better as that is a more fixed role and everyone knows their HoD while they might not know their BM. The committee discussed this at length. CD said it would be helpful to revisit the main reasons for sharing the reports beyond the researchers themselves. DS said it was to ensure transparency and accountability, and to …
- report_survey_um_minor_sustainable_development.pdf (570.92 kB, PDF)… on sustainable development. Between April and July 2019, a survey took place investigating if Bachelor students were interested in having a Minor SD. Whilst the survey was available via the UM Sustainability website, barriers were encountered with regard to its distribution. Most notably, being that related to the idea of having the survey sent to all UM Bachelor students email accounts, which was reject on central level. Therefore, other means were used to inform students about the survey … which included actions conducted by the Green Office, contacting education and programme directors, contacting participants of the Sustainable Research and Education Kickoff, and the use of personal contacts. Results Whilst the outcome of the survey cannot be considered representative due to the fragmented manner of distribution, the 400 responses do provide some insightful results for the Minor SD. From the 400, 335 were Bachelor students and 65 indicated others. The results include students from … ECTS the Minor SD should have in scope with their programme, of the (N = 286) students, 27% (77) say 24 ECTS, and 25% (71) say 30 ECTS. A few students preferred 25 ECTS (13), 26 ECTS (5), 27 ECTS (1), 28 ECTS (4) or 29 ECTS (0). Further, 28% (81) said they don’t know, and 12% (34) said it doesn’t matter. Preferred topics The topics which students would like to be included within the Minor SD - whereby students had the option to select 5 topics from a fixed list - showed a wide variation. The highest …

- enc_abstract_2016_machiels_et_al.pdf (33.65 kB, PDF)… collected using semi-structured interviews and analysed with a thematic analysis. Results: Mean age was 72 years (range 63– 78), four lived alone, three smoked and three had oxygen treatment. Four main themes emerged: *having a life despite of COPD,*pre- dictability and confidence in getting help,*the struggling balance between insight and compli- ance to treatment and *barriers and facilita- tors of the system. The women were no longer able to do household chores due to breathless- ness, they lacked energy to socialize and were concerned about altered appearance due to COPD treatment. They used different strate- gies of coping and adaptation in their daily life that enabled them to have a good life despite of COPD. To feel safe at … lack of motivation for change. All women had an action plan for COPD exacerbation. This self-management strategy empowered eight of the women by helping them to assess the severity of their symptoms and to start treat- ment at home. One woman felt insecure and did not manage to use the plan. Conclusion: Knowledge about older women’s experience of living at home with COPD can help nurses to tailor nursing interventions such as education and supervision to prevent COPD exacerbations and hospital …
