- castriota_brian.pdf (5.02 kB, PDF)… book will remain unread until 2114 when the trees will be felled and a limited edition of the anthology will be printed. Until then, the growing collection of unread manuscripts will be held in a specially-designed chamber in the Oslo Public Library. This is the premise of Katie Paterson's "Future Library" (2014–2114), a century-long public artwork whose conceptual mandate hinges on the work's long-term enacting and conservation. But as an artwork that exists entirely outside the museum – in the absence of an official conservator – how will such a work’s enacting be preserved? This paper considers Paterson's "Future Library" in order to probe familiar questions around material significance, artistic intent and sanction, and distributed authorship, and also to challenge existing frameworks built around clear-cut divisions between an artwork's creation and its implementation. Through an examination of an artwork that breaks with …
- toestemmingsverklaring_portretfoto_en_2018.pdf (93.24 kB, PDF)… Declaration of consent for use of portraits Taking photographs of people falls under Dutch ‘portrait law’, (portretrecht), which restricts the right to publish personal likenesses, including portraits. ‘Personal likeness’ in this sense refers to any visual depiction from which an individual may be recognised. This law gives a photographed person the right to block the publication of his or her portrait. In this regard, the law distinguishes between photographs of people that are and are not commissioned. In the case of commissioned photographs, the person photographed can make copies of the work, and the photographer cannot publish the pictures without permission. With non-commissioned photographs, the photographer is in principle allowed to publish the pictures without permission, unless this would negatively …

- ICAB 2025 - Physics on the scale up format at quantum physics bachelor year 1.pdf (105.95 kB, PDF)… UvA Physics and Astronomy Bachelor program. In the past we were teaching in a standard lecture followed by working group configuration, but in the 2023-2024 season we choose for a more intense Scale-Up version of teaching. Fundamental physics concepts can be complex and require full engagement of students to construct understanding and to develop problem-solving skills. The lectures are based on a collaborative group-learning pedagogy, where the students are asked to work in small groups on exercises after a short instruction by the teachers. Students work within their group and then group results are discussed for the full classroom, leading to a dynamic teaching experience to directly digest quantum physics. During this workshop we will discuss how we experienced this method and we reflect on the positive, but also the negative experiences (and a few unknowns). Both from a teacher and from a student perspective. Speaker Prof. dr. A.P. (Auke-Pieter) Colijn is an …
