- biobased_materials_-_ph-sensitive_graft_copolymers_based_on_cyclic_acetal_monomers_from_renewable_resources_for_controlled_agrochemical_release.pdf (204.16 kB, PDF)… words): Introduction: Typical application of insecticides in crops is made by spraying an aqueous solution containing the active chemical compound. Up to 90 % of any conventional pesticide is generally lost to the air or soil during application. In this work, a solution will be offered which moreover makes use of renewable resources instead of finite fossil raw materials with undesirable environmental impact. Hypothesis and Objectives: In order overcome the enormous loss during pesticide … Setting and Methods: Acetal based building blocks [3] will be explored as versatile biobased platform molecules for the synthesis of completely new green polymers. Next to the use of cyclic acetal monomers as pH-sensitive groups, cyclic acetals can also be used for the synthesis of linear polyacetals, opening the way towards amphiphilic copolymers. In amphiphilic form, the polymers self-assemble in aqueous medium (pesticide solution) into micelles which encapsulate agrochemicals. Upon pH decrease (acid in soil), the cyclic acetal groups in the copolymer can be deprotected which renders the copolymer dihydrophilic, resulting in the controlled pH- triggered release of the agrochemicals. Impact: - Controlled release of agrochemicals considerably reduces pesticide loss, which not only decreases the …

- pbl_assignment_introduction_days_22.pdf (370.24 kB, PDF)… of tutor and the senior student will act as note taker. Assignment Not for profit? “If I’m going to take money from a citizen to put into education then I’m going to take that money to create jobs. So I want that money to go to degrees where people can get jobs in this state. Is it a vital interest of the state to have more anthropologists? I don’t think so” (Scott, 2011) “Thirsty for national profit, nations, and their systems of education, are heedlessly discarding skills that are needed to keep democracies alive. If this trend continues, nations all over the world will soon be producing generations of useful machines, rather than complete citizens who can think for themselves, criticize tradition, and understand the significance of another person’s sufferings and …

In the run up to its opening in May 2011, four museum collections merged together with the so-called heritage cell of Antwerp. A thematical approach led … such as Spoorzoekers, Heilige Plaatsen Heilige Boeken and De winkel om de hoek. During these long-term projects, different communities were invited to participate to one or more of the museological functions of collecting, research and presentation. This implies a shift in perception: the collections are wider than those kept in storage space. They also involve ICH and oral history. Expertise is not owned by the museum curators, but shared with audiences, inhabitants of Antwerp and (source) … to formulate a vision on the participatory approach related to the (super)diverse communities in the city. After many interesting initiatives, it needed a clearer vision on the term ‘participation’, the applicable decision processes, as well as how this all positions the museum. While writing this vision note, the Flemish Minister of Culture added in his Cultural Heritage Decree a fifth function to the four established functions of acquiring, conserving, researching and presenting: participation. …

Teacher preparation The tutor will need to describe in detail a realistic case that the students will then use as the basis of their arguments. The case must have various parties that the students can represent. Student preparation Students will need to write an individual legal pa- per in the context of the case covered. Students should keep in mind that they defend the position of one of the parties in a conflict so they subjec- tively look at the law. They will focus on those argu- ments that can be used to their party’s advantage and leave out others that are not favourable to their party’s position. Because of this, their paper is more like a memorandum of pleading than a legal paper objectively discussing legal theory. Flow 1. Students will be divided into different groups, each group representing one party. 2. Each student will write an individual submis- … introduced by the counsels for each party in the form of a presenta- tion of maximum 10 minutes. 6. In the second round, there is an opportunity for discussing the other parties’ arguments. All stu- dents representing the same party will take part in this debate. 7. In the third and final round, one member of each team will present a concluding statement of the party they represent. Assessment This exercise is part of the mid-term exam, which is worth 40% of the final grade. Activity type A group …
