- Guidelines for AI.pdf (220.44 kB, PDF)… 1 Guidelines for use of generative AI September 2023 The following Guidelines concern the use of generative AIs, and specifically Large Language Models (LLMs) like ChatGPT or Google Bard. These principles were developed based on the state of this technology around mid 2023. Keep in mind that generative AI is a rapidly developing field and that these Guidelines will therefore evolve over time. You are Responsible for Your Use of Generative AI The responsibility for the use of the output of … your responsibility to ensure that the AI’s output is generated and used in alignment with Dutch and European law. Thus, if you share output that you generated using an AI through your work, you are accountable for it. For instance, … be or become reliant on AI in your work, in the long run. Ethics also relates to AI’s societal and environmental impact. Hidden bias in generative AI models is a potential concern. - 2022-2023_flyer_mcel_thesis_project.pdf (183.37 kB, PDF)… MCEL master thesis project 2022-2023 The Conference on the Future of Europe This year’s MCEL master thesis project ‘The Conference on the Future of Europe’ brings together highly motivated students and expert staff members of the Maastricht Centre for European Law (MCEL). The Conference on the Future of Europe was set up by … the EU Treaties, since ‘several of the Conference proposals require amendments to the Treaties’. The different proposals made by the Conference indeed raise questions of constitutional, institutional, substantive and administrative EU law: In how far can a given proposal put forward by the Conference, be realized under the current Treaty framework? How can the political aspirations of the EU citizens (as expressed in specific proposals adopted by the Conference) be legally best realized? If a Treaty amendment is necessary or useful to realize the political aspirations of the citizens, how should this amendment ideally look like? …
- phdproposal_smeekesliebalmeida20signed20version.pdf (224.98 kB, PDF)… the most important, but also most challenging, elements in empirical economic research. One difficulty arises from the fact that many policies are endogenous, as they are typically implemented in response to macroeconomic conditions. Accounting for this endogeneity requires a joint dynamic modelling approach of the economy and the policy which disentangles endogenous responses to economic conditions from exogenous changes that can be used to evaluate policy effects [1]. A second complication in modeling the dynamic causal effect of a policy intervention, is to properly account for anticipation effects (ref 2). Economic agents form expectations of future policy changes and act accordingly: new information about a (possible) future policy change - such as a tax reform - may already have consequences on economic agents’ behaviour before the policy is implemented [2-3]. This makes it difficult to get the timing of policy changes right, especially as expectations - or the information shaping expectations - are very difficult to measure using traditional economic data. Text, such as official announcements by the …
- 2022fse_jolivet_axon_myelin_structural_plasticity.pdf (324.11 kB, PDF)… – the structure through which neurons propagate electrical signals – and the myelin coverage of axons – the structure that ensures the speedy, reliable, and energetically efficient propagation of those signals. Experimental evidence suggests that this newly identified form of plasticity is important in learning, for instance for the coordination of fine motor tasks, and can be induced or modulated by external interventions such as transcranial magnetic stimulation. Hypothesis and Objectives: This project will investigate in computational biology simulations, the biophysics underlying this new form of plasticity. Setting and Methods: We will investigate the role of potassium channels located underneath the myelin coverage at juxtaparanodes. …
