I am Associate Professor at the School of Business and Economics at Maastricht University and a research fellow at the Institute of Labor Economics (IZA) as well as the Research Centre for Education and the Labour Market (ROA). I received my master degree in economics from the Free University Berlin in 2008 and a PhD in economics from the University of Potsdam in 2012. Before joining Maastricht University in Sept 2015, I have held positions at the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA) in Bonn and the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW) in Berlin.

My main research interests lie in applied labor economics. My earlier work focused on the evaluation of active labor market policies, including traditional programs such as training and wage subsidies, as well as initiatives promoting self-employment and enhancing the geographical and occupational mobility of job seekers. Currently, my research focuses on two main areas. First, I study how environmental factors affect labor market outcomes, human health, and cognitive performance. Second, I examine patterns of occupational mobility and secondary employment, viewing secondary employment both as an opportunity for workers to improve job satisfaction by engaging in activities different from their primary occupation and as a potential mechanism for reallocating labor supply toward sectors experiencing worker shortages.
