Lies Wesseling elected President IRSCL
The International Research Society for Children’s Literature (IRSCL) has elected Lies Wesseling as its new president during its 22nd biennial conference in Worcester on 15 August 2015. IRSCL counts 388 members from 42 countries worldwide and supports scholarly inquiry into children’s and youth literature (including young adult fiction) and into affiliated media productions for minors.
Lies Wesseling’s research is on the cultural remembrance of global child displacement in children’s media, and she will commit herself to expanding the IRSCL membership in post-communist European countries, including former eastern Germany, where the society is doing fascinating research into “bloodlands fiction” about and for children, in the wake of Thomas Snyder’s “Bloodlands: Europe Between Hitler and Stalin”.
