Poetry Night

From the traditional poem in a book, to a poetry slam, to Instagram rhyme… Poetry manifests itself in many different ways. This evening will be dedicated to poetry in all its aspects. A variety of artists will bring you live poems, spoken word poetry, interactive lectures, music and more.

Line-up

  • Christin Höne, Assistant Professor in Literary Studies, will give an interactive lecture about Kae Tempest’s On Connection. Christin wants to explore this connection as a theme in Kae Tempest's work and as a live(d) reality on the stage of the Tapijnkazerne.
  • Poet Xia Coenen will perform several pieces, relating and connecting to the audience and highlighting the different sides of connection.
  • Members of Het Belangrijk Genootschap, PANDA's literary talent groupwill build intimate poetry settings during the break.
  • Singer-songwriter Whybe will weave melodic compositions combined with intriguing lyrics through the evening, performed by his distinctive voice.
  • UCM graduate Puck Füsers will evaluate how white space in poetry plays an important role in arriving at the inexpressible, as it ‘speaks’ where language often fails. White space can function to express what is often difficult to say in ways that are more straightforward.
  • Laetitia Teta will be you MC for the night
  • Open Poetry Spot: Four poets who had the guts to sign up for our Open Poetry Spots have been rewarded. Laura De Raeve, Amira Hamadeh, Carla de Luca and Thomas Schäfer will make their first moves on stage. Will they prove to be the up-and-coming talents?

Organised by Kaleido, UCM Poetry Committee, PANDA and Studium Generale
