Het andrologisch onderzoek (d.w.z. het onderzoek van het liesgebied, de mannelijke genitaliën en het rectaal toucher) is zowel voor de patiënt als voor de arts een lastig onderzoek, dat technisch maar ook communicatief hoge eisen stelt aan de arts. Om studenten hier zo goed mogelijk op voor te bereiden oefenen zij eerst de techniek van het onderzoek op modellen. De communicatieve vaardigheden oefenen zij via rollenspellen en vooral via simulatiepatiënt contacten. Het belevingsaspect van zowel de man die het onderzoek ondergaat als van de arts die het onderzoek uitvoert blijft hierbij onbelicht.
