It is also investigated whether strategies that have shown to improve extinction generalization, like adding a partial reinforcement schedule and training across multiple learning contexts and time delays, can be used to enhance the generalization and effectiveness of inhibition training. All studies will be conducted at the Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience (Maastricht University; the Netherlands). Impact: By taking a translational approach, this project opens new avenues to understanding the mechanisms that cause and maintain excessive food intake and overweight, which is indispensable for effective treatment and prevention of obesity. Requirements candidate: Highly motivated student with good English communication skills and proactive and resolute attitude. - fpn_csc_chantal_nederkoorn_1.pdf (309.82 kB, PDF)… alter healthy eating behaviour in children? Project leader: Chantal Nederkoorn, PhD Function: Associate Professor Collaborators: Helen Coulthard, PhD, de Montfort University, Leicester, UK Proposal (250 words): Introduction: Varied food intake, with enough fruits and vegetables, is very important for a healthy life and the prevention of chronic illness. Many children are however neophobic, and reject novel foods, particularly fruits and vegetables. We propose a new model, which states that … multisensory exposure techniques. Hypothesis and Objectives: There are two objectives: 1. To establish whether differences in children in sensory threshold perception and habituation rates in the modalities of taste, smell and touch are associated with fruit and vegetable acceptance. 2. To establish whether sensory thresholds can be altered using habituation techniques, thereby increasing fruit and vegetable acceptance. Setting and Methods: Objective 1 is tested by several experiments, using well established sensory threshold tests, psychophysiological responding and …
- biobased_materials_-_synthesis_and_characterization_of_polymers_containing_a_biobased_alternative_to_terephthalic_acid.pdf (204.4 kB, PDF)… made from fossil based resources, but non-renewable fossils are finite and have undesirable environmental impact (e.g. green-house gas emissions). Hypothesis and Objectives: In contrast to the often encountered route of drop-in biobased monomers with an identical structure to the fossil equivalent, in this work structurally slightly different biobased terephthalic acid equivalents (asymmetric ones) will be made from naturally-occurring malic acid. Biobased polymers based on those new monomers can possibly provide additional beneficial properties. Setting and Methods: The most efficient synthesis route towards the biobased terephthalic acid derivative will be studied. The biobased monomer will be polymerized via polycondensation into … and polyamides, and the polymers will be characterized via NMR, GPC, MALDI-TOF, TGA, DSC, … Furthermore, the biobased polymers will be processed and the corresponding material properties (e.g. mechanical properties, biodegradation, …) will be compared with the fossil based terephthalic acid polymers. Impact: Terephthalic acid has a broad application range going from components for material science (textile, plastic bottles, films, plasticizers, paints and coatings…) and dyes to crucial precursors …
- um_gced_posters_a1-pages-12-ssc3011.pdf (545.87 kB, PDF)… Role-playing a briefing exercise SSC3011: Public Policy Evaluation & Analysis Students integrate their knowledge about policy analysis and deliver a short policy memorandum. They then conduct a briefing exercise based on the written memoranda. In a role-play, one team represents policy analysts presenting the memo. The other team represents the client committee, critically and constructively questioning what is presented. … memo- randum students will write. The roles are provided beforehand and distributed between the students. The roles should have a clear aim. Student preparation The (still ungraded) memo’s are available to the students’ tutorial group, so everyone can use them to prepare for the roleplays. Flow Every student delivers one short policy memo- randum on a given topic in which they integrate knowledge about policy analysis (i.e., problem structuring, choosing evaluative criteria, presenting policy options and benchmarking them with evalu- ative criteria, presenting the preferred option). One half of the class works on topic A; the rest works on topic B. The briefing exercise is based on the written memo- randa. The tutorial group is divided into four teams each consisting of …
- NUTRIM 2015-2020_Summary self-evaluation.pdf (1.11 MB, PDF)… lifestyle and disease-induced derangements in metabolism and by developing targeted nutrition, exercise and drug interventions. We cover the whole spectrum from maintenance of a healthy lifestyle and disease prevention to disease management, with a strong focus on prevalent chronic metabolic and inflammatory disorders across the lifespan. This is facilitated by a combination of fundamental, interventional, clinical and population based translational research, a state-of-the- art infrastructure and close interactions between scientists, clinicians, PhD and master students. NUTRIM, embedded in the faculty of Health Medicine and Life Sciences, has a strong collaboration with the clinic, as part of the strategic partnership Maastricht UMC+, and with the (EU-)region, and various (inter)national academic and corporate partners. After the previous external review (200902015), NUTRIM and Wageningen University decided not … € (2015-2020) and is in line with the funding landscape, as notified by our strategic interaction with several companies facilitating TKI- benefit and the involvement in various EU-funded project. In 2020, NUTRIM employed 190,9 fte and has ~250 PhD candidates. Of these, about 60% are external PhD candidates, merely due to the close collaboration with the hospital. Our research results in about 39 PhD-graduations each year and a CNCI of 1.7, showing that NUTRIM publications are cited 70% more …
