Film Analysis – Anatomy of Film

Film analysis is the process by which  a film is analysed in terms of its visuals, sound, editing and narration. Analysing film helps us understand the effectiveness of filmmakers’ intentions and messages, as well as our own interpretations of the final visual product. Each topic of this lecture series is illustrated by many film clips from different periods and by different directors. The presentations will also be linked to films at Lumière Cinema: www.lumiere.nl.

Karel Deburchgrave is the chairman of the Belgian film monthly Filmmagie and has worked as a film critic for various magazines. He teaches film at the film museums of Brussels, Antwerp and Louvain and gives film seminars for teachers at different cultural centres.
