NWO Vici beurs voor Raf de Bont

Raf de Bont, historian at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences received a € 1,500,000 Vici grant for his research project 'Moving animals: A History of Science, Media and Policy in the Twentieth Century.'

The project describes how the twentieth century witnessed spectacular changes in the ways wild animals moved across the globe. Think of invasions of ‘exotic’ species, reintroductions of threatened animals, the disturbance of migratory routes and the trading of zoo animals. ‘Moving Animals’ analyses how humans have studied, represented and managed these movements.

De Bont: "The project has been in the making for quite some time. I am very excited with the opportunity to turn it into something real now, and to start building up a research team."

The Vici grants are intended for highly experienced scientists who have already developed an innovative line of research. With the money, the laureates can build their own research group over the next five years.
