Caroline Bouvier kijkt graag achter de afbeelding, voorbij de weergave van een schilderij. In de beschrijving van het afgebeelde - de iconografie - is de uit Parijs afkomstige postdoctorale onderzoekster minder geïnteresseerd dan in de chemische processen die achter de compositie schuilgaan.
