De drie Baltische landen aan de Oostzee zijn historisch, taalkundig, godsdienstig en sociaal zeer uiteenlopend, maar wat de drie landen sterk bindt en tot een eenheid maakt, is de nabijheid van Poetins Rusland en de gezamenlijke angst voor een nieuwe overheersing door die grote buurman.
In de dappere en veerkrachtige kuststaten van de Oostzee brandt de Europese geest het sterkst.

This series introduces you to the work of five of the most influential philosophers of the 19th century: Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, Arthur Schopenhauer, Karl Marx, Søren Kierkegaard and Friedrich Nietzsche.
Discussing the main works of these intellectual heroes will give you a better understanding of the key themes of modern philosophy: the struggle for recognition, voluntarism versus determinism, theory and praxis, fear and anxiety, liberty and power.

Legends and folklore are often the manifestation of deep-rooted cultural beliefs. What if witches are not mythical figures, but the legacy of a patriarchal world view that misjudged mental illnesses in women? Die Dreigroschenoper is a play with music, in a prologue and eight scenes, based on The Beggar’s Opera by John Gay. It is titillating entertainment that challenges the audience to look critically at society and morality. Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht wrote this satirical play with music, which is full of social criticism, in 1928. Almost a hundred years later, the work is still as sharp and topical as ever.

Can less be more? In a world characterised by uncertainty, simple rules — known as heuristics — often lead to better decisions than complex algorithms. These heuristics are not only more efficient but also easier to understand and apply. This talk explores the concept of the adaptive toolbox (the repertoire of heuristics available to individuals or organisations) and examines its ecological rationality — how these heuristics leverage the structure of the environment to achieve effective outcomes.
