UM Star Lecture: Sniffing at tumours: Innovation in the molecular operating theatre (Dutch lecture)
… Zoekresultaten Lecture for alumni in Utrecht 2 februari 2017 19:30 Tissue at the molecular level can be typified in many ways. Now we realise that an individualised approach to patients leads to better results, it is crucial to make precise diagnoses. Diagnoses at the molecular level. The molecular profiles of cells and tissues are mapped in the course of a surgical procedure. This is done with the aid of innovative molecular pathology. It provides a direct insight into a tumour’s personality and is a diagnostic instrument for ‘personalised medicine’. These molecular profiles are also made using the smoke created by incising with an electrosurgical knife. In this future molecular operating theatre, the surgeon gets a direct insight into the patient while operating and obtains tissue-specific information that can …

… Zoekresultaten UM Star Lecture in Utrecht 7 februari 2019 19:30 - 7 februari 2019 22:30 Data science is playing an increasingly significant role in medicine. Professor André Dekker and his team are building a global medical data infrastructure and using machine learning to mine it for new information. This has already resulted in algorithms that predict the outcome of administering specific treatments to specific patients. Though the … infrastructures, machine-learning cancer outcome prediction modelling based on this data, and applying outcome prediction models to improve the lives of cancer patients. His main scientific breakthrough has been the development of a Semantic Web and ontology-based data sharing and distributed learning infrastructure that does not require data to leave the hospital. This has reduced many of the ethical and other barriers to data sharing. This lecture is part of traditional series of …
