Studium Generale and Opera Zuid are teaming up to offer students a unique opportunity to go to the opera – at a quarter of the normal price!

Shameless, hilarious and a bit cheeky! In the comic opera Orphée aux Enfers, master satirist Jacques Offenbach gives the classical myth a twist. Eurydice hates Orpheus’ music, rejects her bourgeois life and travels to the underworld with her lover Pluto. The gods, bored with their rich and powerful lives, decide to follow Eurydice. Their appearance in the underworld eventually leads to an extravagant, cheerful and liberating party.

Orphée aux Enfers is a parody of antiquity and shows the conflict between hell and paradise. The magic of the gods is a seamless match for Offenbach’s vibrant music. ‘The music is vulnerable like a bubble and extremely extravagant.’ Directed by Benjamin Prins, the opera is set in antiquity, yet also responds to current events.

The opera is performed in French with English and Dutch subtitles.

Prior to the opera, there will be an introduction in English at 18:45.
