Cybercrime, stealing data, digital espionage are the biggest threats in the area of cyber security. The potential impact of cyber attacks will increase due to the rapid digitization of society. Data are vulnerable to abuse and misuse. International politics and diplomacy are taking on new forms, and this is visible with the increasing importance of cyber security.

Information about the lecturer

Bart Jacobs is Professor of Software Security and Correctness at the Radboud University of Nijmegen. He is member of the National Cyber Security Council, and was one of the initiators of the newly established European Network for Cyber Security (ENCS) that's based in the Hague. He appears in the media regularly warning about the security weaknesses of data banks, voting computers and chip cards. In 2012, he received an Advanced Grant worth €2.5 million from the European Research Council (ERC) for research on quantum computing, logic and security. He is member of the (Informatics section of the) Academia Europaea, member of the Koninklijke Hollandsche Maatschappij der Wetenschappen (KHMW). He Chairs the Advice Board (Raad van Advies) of the Dutch digital rights group Bits of Freedom.
