Today, more than 3,000 students from Maastricht University and Zuyd Hogeschool have started their introduction week in Maastricht.

Internationalisation of education, and specifically the intake of international students, is a hot topic in Dutch politics. This will also be the case in early 2023. As the most international university in the country, UM follows developments closely and, in the interest of the university and the region, the institution continues to ask for tailor-made solutions in the event of any regulations limiting the intake of foreign students.
Maastricht University and Radboud University’s teacher training academies are to intensify their cooperation to address the shortage of secondary school teachers. The joint workplace education programme will make it easier for existing and aspiring teachers in Limburg to obtain a teaching qualification via an academic teacher training programme. The new programme will start in September 2022.
Astrid Boeijen will be the CEO of Brightlands Chemelot Campus in Geleen. Currently the CEO of the Brightlands Smart Services Campus in Heerlen, she will be transferring to the Brightlands Chemelot Campus on July 1. Astrid succeeds Bert Kip who held this position for eleven years.

Internationalisering van het onderwijs, en specifiek de instroom van internationale studenten is een hot topic in de Nederlandse politiek. Dat zal ook begin 2023 het geval zijn. Als meest internationale universiteit van het land volgt de UM de ontwikkelingen natuurlijk op de voet en blijft de instelling in het belang van de universiteit en de regio bij eventuele regelgeving ter beperking van de instroom van buitenlandse studenten om maatwerk vragen.

Barbara Strating is de nieuwe curator van de Kunst- en Erfgoedcommissie van de Universiteit Maastricht. Zij volgt Mieke Derickx op, die na meer dan 20 jaar afscheid neemt.
