During your study programme, or in the period between your bachelor’s and master’s programmes, you may wish to take a break from your studies. Taking time out can be a very positive experience that gives you the chance to do something you always wanted: travelling, volunteering, getting to know another culture, acquiring special skills or developing new competences.
This page offers an overview of student organisations that are managed by students of Maastricht University. They are open for you to join. These organisations act under their own responsibility.

Studying is more than just going to classes. It is at least as important to meet people, use your body and stimulate your mind. There are plenty of opportunities in Maastricht that allow you to broaden your horizons.
A good way of getting to know people is to become a member of a student club. In Maastricht there are not just social clubs but also a large number of study clubs, sports clubs and clubs that are active in the area of art and culture. Each club has its own objectives, culture and programme. More information about the clubs can be found on their websites.

Supportive UM-services for student organisations
The UM Guesthouse is part of Maastricht Housing, the official housing agency for Maastricht University, Zuyd University of Applied Sciences and the Jan van Eyck Academy. The UM Guesthouse has over 900 fully furnished rooms in 10 different locations in Maastricht, all within walking distance of UM locations.
UM processes a great deal of personal data. The Personal Data Protection Act (WBP) (only in Dutch) sets rules on the processing of this data.
Maastricht University (UM) is a proud supporter of SenUM, the UM association of former employees. All former employees over the age of fifty (and their partners) are encouraged to become members of SenUM.
The social fund Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (SFOCW) is an organization for employees of this Ministry and people who are employed by associated institutions (e.g. IB-Group, universities, academic hospitals, museum).
