Atoms and smaller elementary particles behave in unusual, sometimes unpredictable ways. It sounds strange, but it is this unpredictability that gives a quantum computer its power. Executing precise calculations with previously unheard-of possibilities in a way that physicists still do not completely comprehend: welcome to the world of the quantum computer.
Gerco Onderwater investigates the flavour of the universe while guarding the flavour of the Maastricht Science Programme. On 31 May, during his inaugural lecture, he will provide a pre-taste of his work in Maastricht.
The perfect recycling of plastics from household waste is one step closer, thanks to research into quality monitoring at all stages of the recycling process. The University of Maastricht, the National Test Centre Circular Plastics, and their collaborators have received a government subsidy of over EUR 2 million, which will accelerate their research.

Over the next four years, four young researchers can start research into crop biotechnology and engineering, thanks to the collaboration between Radboud University and Maastricht University. The researchers will start work at the Brightlands Campus Greenport in Venlo, halfway between the two universities and at the heart of an important agricultural and horticultural area in the Netherlands and Germany.
It is our pleasure to invite you to our MaCSBio Science Day 2024. The theme of this year’s science event is: Creating optimal models: constraints and opportunities.
Researchers from across the world have mapped the genetic relationships of the majority of flowering plant genera. Maastricht University helped with this massive effort, which completes the evolutionary tree of life of plants like never before. The famous scientific journal Nature published their research this week.
On April 19, during her inaugural lecture, Anna Wilbik explained how we can squeeze out the whole potential of data to the last drop.
