"Mapping authorship and ownership in contemporary art conservation: A study of law and practice"

This interdisciplinary study explores what authorship and ownership mean in the context of making and conserving contemporary artworks. Situated within the frameworks of copyright law and conservation theory and practice, this research considers the perspectives of both the artist and the conservator. Drawing on copyright law, conservation, and translation studies, this study considers understandings of ‘the work’, the rights of artists to make decisions about the stewardship of their work, the nature of conservation practice, ideas of labour, and the recognition of knowledge.
