The importance of cross-border cooperation manifests itself more than ever during the coronapandemic. Multi-level governance is the foundation for taking the next steps; looking for each other and perpetuating relationships at all levels, in administration, politics and practice. This became clear during the ITEM annual conference on 19 November, which focused on the lessons learned, opportunities and challenges of cross-border cooperation. Watch the video recap.

On Wednesday May 9, 2018, the Municipality of Heerlen organises an event in the city centre of Heerlen. This event is organized to celebrate the border location Heerlen-Aachen. The distance between Heerlen and Aachen is so small that both cities can easily benefit from each other’s cultures and events. Thus, to celebrate the cooperation between these two cities and to highlight the border location, Heerlen organises the event, the “Nachbar Nacht”
Graduate students from the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs (NASPAA) will compete at UNU-MERIT and seven other sites worldwide in this day-long simulation.
