Most students go home during the summer time. But not all! Why do they stay in Maastricht and what do they do during the summer?

The Dutch Research Council (NWO) has awarded Dr Zvezda Vankova of the Faculty of Law a Rubicon grant that allows her to conduct research at the University of Lund (Sweden) for a period of 24 months. The Rubicon programme is intended to give young, highly promising researchers the opportunity to gain international research experience.

UM Rector Magnificus Rianne Letschert is one of the finalists for the title Top Female Executive of the Year 2019. A key selection criterion this year is diversity.

If you could find out whether you’ll get Alzheimer’s disease someday, would you want to know? “No”, says researcher Heidi Jacobs firmly. “Not until we can do something about it.” She does have high hopes that a treatment to delay the onset of the disease is within reach. “Many dementia researchers, myself included, have stepped out of their bubble.”

This year’s Annual Research Day on 20 and 21 June (Toogdag) revolved around the theme of efficiency of human rights, and provided for valuable presentations and discussions from many different angles.
