General terms and conditions UM SPORTS
1.1 You are member of UM SPORTS if you possess a ‘Basic’, ‘Sports’ and/or ‘Gym’ membership (see website for membership details).
1.2 University and university of applied sciences students, UM employees and UM alumni can become members. Partners of UM employees and employees of partner companies can also become members of UM SPORTS.
1.3 Others (55+) only have the option to purchase a senior card.
2.1 A membership of UM SPORTS is valid during the academic year (1 September to 31 August) or a semester (1 September to 31 January).
2.2 You can become a member throughout the entire academic year. The rate depends on the moment of purchase, membership category and the length of the membership.
2.3 UM SPORTS does not charge a registration fee and does not have a cancellation period. The membership expires automatically.
2.4 Cancellation before the end of the membership is not possible.
2.5 Validity UM SPORTS swimming pool admission card: these are valid throughout the entire academic year (until August 2018) and can only be used in combination with a valid “Basic” membership.
3.1 The rate to be paid depends on the membership status, type of membership and the length of the membership.
3.2 The membership costs should be paid in one go. Paying by instalments is not possible.
3.3 Payment at the reception is only possible using a bank or credit card.
3.4 Registration via the web shop is possible for all UM students and all UM employees. Payment is then made via iDeal or a credit card.
3.5 UM SPORTS is entitled to ask for proof of registration from the institution (UM/Zuyd University of applied sciences) to check the legitimacy of the status.
3.6 Personal data will only be used for the administrative purposes of UM SPORTS.
4. Admission check
4.1 Upon entering the University Sports Centre you always have to "check-in" at the front desk.
4.2 If you forget the membership card three times then you will be charged €5 and a duplicate card will be printed.
4.3 At other locations it is not possible to participate in the training sessions/lessons without a valid membership and/or proof of participation for the course.
4.4 If a membership card becomes unusable due to loss or damage then a new card should be applied for. You will be charged €5 for the duplicate card.
4.5 In the case of theft no administrative costs will be charged if a valid certificate of notification from the police about the theft can be presented.
The membership is strictly personal. UM SPORTS reserves the right to withdraw the membership card if it is misused. In the case of inappropriate behaviour or failure to adhere to the rules and regulations UM SPORTS can also decide to temporarily or permanently suspend membership.
6.1 Participation in activities takes place entirely at the individual's own risk. Users are not insured via Maastricht University against the consequences of accidents when practising a sport. It is therefore advisable to wear appropriate sports clothing, sports shoes and if necessary sports glasses.
6.2 Maastricht University is not liable for the loss of clothing and/or valuable objects.
6.3 Maastricht University can hold you liable for damage caused or destruction. You should check whether you are insured for the risks associated with practising a sport; if that is not the case you should take care of this.
6.4 The General Terms and Conditions of Maastricht University apply to all transactions via the UM SPORTS web shop and at the front desk of the University Sports Centre.
7. Restitution membership and changes to courses
7.1 It is not possible to return membership fees and registration fees for courses/ activities requiring registration. In the case of grave circumstances a request can be considered. An email with an explanation should then be sent to umsports[at]maastrichtuniversity[dot]nl
7.2 A course registration cannot be cancelled or changed.
8. Sports facilities/programme
8.1 The sports facilities are published digitally and in writing.
8.2 UM SPORTS reserves the right to make changes to sports facilities and opening times.
8.3 On public holidays and during university holidays the facilities offered are limited.
8.4 UM SPORTS will inform members of any changes via announcements in the University Sports Centre, on the website, Facebook page and in the newsletter.
9. Cancellation of lessons
9.1 UM SPORTS tries to ensure a replacement in the event that instructors are absent. Unfortunately that is not always possible. Restitution is not possible (see also 7.1).
9.2 Outside sport activities can be cancelled due to weather conditions.
9.3 If a lesson is cancelled then this will be communicated if possible by various channels. All course participants will receive an email.
10. Complaints procedure
In the event of complaints or comments an email can be sent to: umsports[at]maastrichtuniversity[dot]nl. You can also complete a feedback form. This can be obtained at the front desk of the University Sports Centre.
11. Obligations of UM SPORTS
11.1 UM SPORTS will ensure that the facilities are subjected to the necessary maintenance.
11.2 UM SPORTS will guarantee that instructors or coaches have the sufficient level of knowledge that may be reasonably expected from them.
11.3 UM SPORTS will ensure that sufficient first aid materials are present.
11.4 UM SPORTS will take measures to prevent damage to or the loss of members' property.
12. Requirements of members
12.1 You should follow the instructions given by UM SPORTS and adhere to the rules and regulations.
12.2 You should always follow the instructions given by UM SPORTS employees.
12.3 You may not make use of equipment or facilities that you are not familiar with. If you are not familiar with one or more pieces of equipment or facilities then you should make this known to UM SPORTS so that an explanation can be given.
12.4 You may not make use of equipment and facilities under the influence of alcohol, drugs, medicines or substances considered to be doping agents.
12.5 You may not smoke in the rooms made available by UM SPORTS.
12.6 Changes to the membership status, postal address, email address and telephone number should be passed on in good time in writing/ digitally or in person to UM SPORTS.
