  • The European Commission approved one of the final Deliverables of the FP7 project EFFACE (EU Action to Fight Environmental Crime).

  • A quartet of Finance in Motion staff members have introduced the basics of impact investing to students at a Dutch university, and they responded with pitches for a wide range of funds.

  • Mark Levels (ROA and GSBE) won a research grant in the highly competitive Open Research Area grant scheme, organized by NWO, ANR, JSPS, DFG and ESRC, to conduct a large cross-national research program on youth Not in Employment, Education and Training (NEETs).

    On 9 March MCEL member, Professor Lisa Waddington, gave a keynote lecture at the conference Disability Policies and the impact of UNCRPD in the Nordic Region,  organised by the Nordic centre for Welfare and Social Issues  in Helsinki. 

  • On Friday 4 March, Professor Jaap Spier was awarded with the distinction of Knight in the Order of the Dutch Lion by Mayor Penn-te Strake for his role in the development of liability law at national, supranational and international level.

  • The University of Aruba and Maastricht University signed an agreement today, Thursday 11 February 2016, to offer a Double Degree Master Programme in International and European Tax Law as of September 2016. The programme will be offered entirely in English.

  • On the 28th until 31st of January Maastricht University hosted one of the regional finals of the European Law Moot Court competition.

  • MCEL associate scholar Florin Coman-Kund has successfully defended his PhD thesis entitled “Europen Union Agencies as Global Actors - A Legal Study of the European Aviation Safety Agency, Frontex and Europol”. His dissertation was supervised by MCEL members Ellen Vos and Andrea Ott.

    Prof. Susan Rose-Ackerman, Henry R. Luce Professor of Jurisprudence at Yale University, received an honorary doctorate from the University of Maastricht (UM) in the Netherlands on the occasion of its fortieth anniversary  on January 11, 2016. 

  • Charlotte A Campo’s LLB thesis was awarded by the Board of the Stichting Wetenschapsbeoefening UM as last year’s best bachelor thesis of the European Law School.
