Is the Einstein Telescope coming to the Euregion? As yet, nobody knows. But if the telescope is built here, it will offer many opportunities for valorisation, according to Han Dols. Dols is head of business development at CERN, the European laboratory for particle physics in Geneva. He delivered the keynote speech at the Opening of the Academic Year. “Big science—like CERN and, soon, the Einstein Telescope—can contribute to open and inclusive scientific collaboration.”

Alum Saara Martinmäki volunteered for the Red Cross, and during high school helped drowning survivors overcome their fear of water. She came to Maastricht University in 2015 to pursue a master’s in Clinical Psychology. Today, she conducts research on the wellbeing of humanitarian aid workers and advises international organisations on how best to support their employees. “I became fascinated by applied mental health research when I saw how successful trauma treatment can be.”

This summer, SBE-MILE PhD Student and MORSE initiative member Vinzenz Peters had the opportunity to participate in the 2024 edition of the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (EAERE) Summer School at Seggau Castle in Leibnitz, Austria. The MORSE travel fund supported Vinzenz’s participation in this prestigious event, which was organized by the Wegener Center for Climate and Global Change and the Institute of Economics of the University of Graz.
