Doctorate removes tax barriers for EU-citizens who work across the border
17-07-2017On 12 July 2017 the defence of PhD Thesis of Dr Hannelore Niesten (joint doctorate UHasselt/UM) took place. The joint doctorate of Dr Hannelore Niesten was carried out under supervisors Prof. Dr. Elly Van de Velde (UHasselt) and Dr. Marjon Weerepas (Maastricht University). The University of Hasselt pubslished an article about the PhD thesis regarding the tax barriers of free movement of persons in the EU.

Report of the successful MACCH Conference 2017 Participatory Practices in Arts and Heritage
01-05-2017On 17 and 18 March 2017, the MACCH annual conference ‘Participatory Practices in Arts and Heritage’ took place in Maastricht. The event was attended by an international group of researchers and professionals from a diverse set of backgrounds, including academics, policy makers, legal and museum professionals.

Dr. Benedikt Poser and his team reel in the NWO Investment Subsidy Medium grant (MaGW)
15-03-2017Last week Dr. Benedikt Poser of the Department of Cognitive Neuroscience (CN) at the Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience (FPN) received word from the NWO (Dutch Organisation for Scientific Research) that his team received the NWO Investment Subsidy Medium grant (MaGW) from the NWO’s division of Social Sciences and Humanities.

01-03-2017On 7 December 2016 the UWV and Expertisecentrum Inclusieve Arbeidsorganisatie (CIAO) signed a cooperation agreement for the duration of 4 years. The CIAO is housed at Universiteitssingel 40, Maastricht University.

Dr. Jessica Alleva awarded for her work on improving body image
01-03-2017In January Dr. Jessica Alleva, from the Department of Clinical Psychological Science at the Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience, was honoured twice for her work on improving body image. She received the 2016 Seymour Fisher Outstanding Body Image Dissertation Award and the Distinguished Women Scientist Fund 2016 (she is the first UM researcher to receive these honours).

ITEM’s Alexander Hoogenboom wins Ius Commune Prize
09-12-2016Alexander Hoogenboom, scientific coordinator at ITEM, is the winner of the Ius Commune Prize of 2016. Alexander Hoogenboom won the 2016 Ius Commune Prize for his paper ‘In Search of a Rationale for the EU Citizenship Jurisprudence’. The prize was awarded at the 15th Ius Commune Conference on 24 November 2016.

Het migratiebeleid staat kansen in de weg in de grensregio’s
01-12-2016Migratierecht en -beleid gaan veelal uit van een eenheid: verblijf en ‘bezigheid’ — werk, studie/stage, onderzoek, et cetera — in één land. Maar diezelfde eenheid levert problemen op in de grensstreken. Niet zozeer voor EU-burgers, die het ‘recht op vrij verkeer’ hebben, maar wel voor zogenoemde ‘derdelanders’, grof gezegd mensen zonder EU, EER of Zwitserse nationaliteit.
